The New Model Army, as Colt identified the Model 1860 revolvers, was a streamlined improvement of the Third Model Dragoons. The New Army provided superior ballistics, lighter weight and improved balance. It was quickly adopted officially by U.S.Ordnance and became popular with both U.S. and C.S. mounted troops. As a consequence of such popularity, U.S. marked 1860 revolvers in fine condition are very scarce to encounter today. The standard 8″ barrel Army cut for shoulder stock, all matching serial numbers 45261. Colt production date of mid 1862. A very good condition Martial marked Army revolver.
