Very rare Confederate manufactured Civil War Carbine, manufactured by the firm Keen, Walker & Company of Danville, Virginia, between May & September in 1862. Records indicate only a total of 280 carbines were manufactured by this firm for the Confederate Government, with very few surviving examples. The overall length is 40 inches, with barrel length of 21.5 inches. Barrels are bored to caliber .54, rifled with seven land and grooves. The barrel is properly inspector proof marked, with stamped “P” near bronze breech block. Barrels are originally finished of “bright heat blue” or “brown lacquer.” This carbine confirms exactly to published examples in the acclaimed reference “Confederate Carbines & Musketoons” by John M. Murphy, M.D. and Howard Michael Madaus. An exceptional surviving example of a very rare Confederate manufactured carbine. Sold
