W. J. McElroy Officers sword manufactured in Macon, Georgia. This example survives in a near perfect state of original preservation. Typical to this manufactures design pattern is the firm name engraved on right side of blade “W. J. McElroy above Macon, Geo.Opposite blade is etched with a pair of crossed cannon and pair of crossed 1st National Confederate flags. This example was patterned similar to the regulation U.S. Model 1850 sword. The firm W. J. McElroy manufactured many additional arms and accouterments for the Confederacy. The wooden grip is covered by the original “tarred linen” which is typical Georgia feature on Confederate swords, and covered with it&146;s original brass wire. This McElroy Officers sword survives in a “near perfect” state of original preservation and is one of the finest examples typically encountered.
