South Carolina became the first state to secede from the Federal Union on December 20, 1860. The secession of South Carolina precipitated the outbreak of the American Civil War in Charleston Harbor on April 12, 1861. This finely manufactured South Carolina Two-Piece waist belt plate measures 51 X 82 mm / wreath ht. 52mm. Cast brass with applied die-struck tongue disc, with wreath exhibiting “deep cast” oak-leaf wreath design. Many of this pattern worn by Southern Officers with belt loop ornamentation similar to wreath design.
