The presented Battle Flag was manufactured in Augusta, Georgia, January-February 1864 and presented to the unit via Quarter Master, “Edward G. Bradley” requisition on February 29th 1864 at Dalton, Georgia, to the 19th Alabama Infantry. Bradley enlisted in Co H, 19th Alabama on August 17th 1861 and resigned on February 15th 1865 as unit Quarter Master. This flag is constructed in the pattern of the Army of Tennessee battle flag with a red wool field, blue wool cross and white cotton stars and fimbriation. Measurements: Leading edge 36″. Fly 52.” The flag of the 19th Alabama was captured at the battle of Ezra Church on July 29th 1864 by two soldiers of the 48th Illinois Veteran Volunteer Infantry. The two names inked on the flag are Corporal Stephen Calkins and Private James A. Pullian Co H 48th Illinois. The 19th Alabama charge at Ezra Church is even more remarkable, by the fact that the 48th Illinois were armed with Henry repeating rifles in that engagement.
